Hey everyone! I'm excited to share with you some thoughts from a recent engagement shoot I did at Rodeo Beach. This place is truly special, and I want to tell you all about it, especially how I worked with the beach's unique weather conditions!
Rodeo Beach, just north of San Francisco, is known for its stunning scenery - golden sand, dramatic rocks and cliffs. But like many coastal areas, it also has its own weather personality, particularly when it comes to wind and fog.
For this shoot, I met with Laiken and Grayson, a lovely couple who are getting married next year. They chose Rodeo Beach because they love nature and wanted their photos to show that. We definitely had some breezy moments. But instead of fighting it, we decided to embrace it! Here are some tips we used that might help you in your own beach photoshoot:
Expect the wind: Don't be surprised if it's windy. It's part of the beach experience, so let's roll with it and have fun!
Hair strategies: You don't have to pull all your hair back, but having some control helps.
Dress for success: Laiken wore a flowy dress that looked amazing in the wind. Choose clothes that won't fight you in the breeze.
We started our shoot about two hours before sunset. This is what photographers call the "golden hour," and it's perfect for taking romantic photos. The light is soft and warm, making everyone look their best. If you can't do evening, early morning works great too!

Remember, your engagement photos should be a fun experience and show who you are as a couple. Whether it's at a beach, in a city, or anywhere else, the most important thing is that you feel comfortable and happy!
Rodeo Beach has so many great natural elements to use in photos. We used the big rocks near the water, the waves, and even the beach grass for different backgrounds.
